CCS Masterclass
CCS rewards safe, timely, complete management. Think like an attending, not like a test taker.
Universal First 60 Seconds
- Check stability: airway, breathing, circulation, mental status, vitals.
- Choose location: office, ER, ward, ICU, operating room.
- Place monitoring: cardiac monitor, pulse oximetry, BP cycling if unstable.
- Order diagnostics and treatment together when the patient is unstable.
Core CCS Habits
- Do not wait for lab results before treating shock, sepsis, STEMI, anaphylaxis, status epilepticus, or severe hyperkalemia.
- Do not forget counseling, preventive care, and follow-up once the acute problem is controlled.
- Advance the clock only after key orders are placed.
- Use consults appropriately, but do not rely on consults to do your initial stabilization.
